Allergic, or, as it is also called, eosinophilic is one of the varieties of acute gastritis that occurs in a person as a reaction to a certain kind of allergen, usually food or medicinal sludge. In most cases, patients with such a diagnosis have any allergic pathology in their history, but in some cases, this becomes a "discovery" for a person.
Any foodstuff, especially citrus and other fruits with bright color, food additives or medicines, can act as an irritant, and such gastritis occurs even in parasitic lesions of the digestive tract. It is worth noting that the reaction of the stomach to the allergen that has got into it develops quickly enough, if not instantaneously, and the severity of the symptoms can be very intense.
Clinical manifestations of an allergic gastritis
Literally within a few minutes of getting into the stomach of an irritant, an allergic gastritis "declares" itself with symptoms such as:
- Sudden anxiety;
- Dizziness;
- Nausea resulting in vomiting;
- Increasing pain syndrome, having a paroxysmal character, with predominant localization in the epigastric region;
- Often a rash appears on the skin.
Depending on the individual reaction of the body to the incoming allergen, eosinophilic gastritis may be accompanied by a collapoid state. But in most cases, the reaction is not so pronounced, and the disease proceeds more calmly, and its symptoms are difficult to distinguish from the simple chronic course of this pathology.
Diagnosis of allergy to gastritis
In order to accurately diagnose an allergic gastritis, one patient examination is not enough, because the clinical picture of different types of acute gastritis is quite similar. Mandatory history is collected, a clinical blood test is assigned, which reveals eosinophilia. In the study of gastric juice, its acidity is determined. Gastroscopy reveals hypersecretion, pronounced hyperemia of the gastric mucosa, its swelling and thickening of the walls.
With a pronounced or neglected process, hemorrhage or erosion of the mucous membrane can be observed. In a number of cases, gastroscopy reveals the presence of numerous papules on the small curvature of the stomach, according to the type of urticaria. Helps to establish the diagnosis of the reaction of Ouenier, leukopenic and thrombocytopenic tests with certain allergens, the Shelley test( degeneration of basophilic leukocytes), evaluation of damage to neutrophils. Such a complex diagnosis allows us to practically exclude other types of gastritis and prescribe an exact, adequate treatment.
Treatment of allergic gastritis
Despite the fact that allergic gastritis is complicated enough in terms of therapy, as there is no specific treatment as such, it is still possible to get rid of it. For this, it is important not only the work of the doctor, but also the desire of the patient himself, which quickly disappears, barely disturbing symptoms subsiding.
Because eosinophilic gastritis is caused by allergens, treatment begins with their complete exclusion from the diet. This leads to the fact that the symptoms of the disease almost completely cease to appear.
If the allergy to gastritis is caused by a well-known allergen, treatment begins with the appointment of a systematic ellimination diet. It is very important that the patient strictly and unswervingly observe it.
But, unfortunately, in most cases, the disease remains with an unidentified etiology, which does not allow you to exclude from the diet that allergen, which is marked by such an inadequate response. In this case, products such as:
- containing a large amount of animal protein( meat, milk, eggs) are almost completely excluded from use( are sufficiently limited);
- red / orange fruits and vegetables( berries);
- chocolate, coffee and strong black tea.
Allergic( eosinophilic) gastritis involves prescribing drugs such as antacids( with increased acidity of gastric juice), antihistamines, the name and dosage of which is determined by the doctor individually for each patient.
In some cases, drug therapy is complemented by the appointment of fortifying agents( vitamins, for example).It should be noted that allergic gastritis, diagnosed once, imposes restrictions on diet for a very long period, and any errors in the diet can at any time cause an exacerbation of this pathology.
