How paraffinotherapy is done
Paraffinotherapy does not requirespecial equipment or skills, so it can be done at home. To simplify the procedure, it is recommended to purchase a special kit that includes all the necessary components, but they can be selected from the tools at hand. The procedure is based on manipulation with paraffin, which is applied to a specific area of the skin.
Please note!
Normal candle wax can not be used! He either will not bring results, or will do harm to health. For the procedure, you need to buy a special cosmetic paraffin.Cosmetic paraffin is of several types, it is represented by different firms and can include in addition to the main component a few additional ones in the form of essential oils. For this or that purpose, you can use paraffin with various additives:
- with mint oil - strengthens the walls of the vessels, reduces pigmentation, normalizes the function of the sebaceous glands;
- with peach butter - suitable for thin, sensitive skin;
- with eucalyptus oil - whitens the skin, reduces puffiness, promotes the acceleration of skin regeneration;
- with rose oil - eliminates peeling, will come an even shade of skin, relieves inflammation and swelling;
- with cocoa butter - designed to protect the skin from weathering and in winter.
These are not all types of paraffin with additives. Each specialized company presents its own line of products, among which you can choose any one for taste and mood.
There is also a universal paraffin without aromatic, oil and vitamin additives, suitable for any skin type. It can also be used in facial paraffinotherapy.
Why paraffinotherapy is performed
As with any cosmetic procedure, paraffin therapy has its own indications for use and the positive effect that is achieved in its result.
- moisturizing the skin and protecting it from cracks;
- rejuvenation, removal of pigment spots, tightening and giving the skin elasticity;
- cleansing from dead cells and increasing the speed of their renewal.
Paraffinotherapy is used not only for cosmetic purposes, but also for medical purposes, recommending it as a means of combating varicose veins, with disorders of the musculoskeletal system and with some other diseases.
Paraffinotherapy has several types that can be performed at home.
- cold paraffin therapy;
- hot paraffin therapy.
Each species has its own ways of performing the procedure, which are equally effective both at home and in specialized salons.
Both procedures require special devices, which you can find analogues at home. Special protective gloves / bags can be replaced with conventional cellophane, instead of heat-masters, a terry towel is perfect, and any ceramic or enameled container with high edges will be an alternative to the bath.
Cold paraffinotherapy
This procedure is used in cases of contra-indication of thermal procedures or in the warm season when you want a little coolness and at the same time good for the skin.
Please note! Cold paraffin therapy is applied to the hands and feet, but is not suitable for the face.
Stages of procedure
Skin cleansing
Hands should be washed with soap to remove all contamination and previously applied cosmetic products. At the same stage, you can use scrubs for the skin, rubbing them with soft massaging movements. Scrub cleans the skin of dead cells and prepares it for the main process.
Application of moisturizing creams and toners
This step can be neglected, but the components contained in the cream can penetrate deeper with the paraffin mask, enhancing the positive effect of the procedure.
Cold paraffinotherapy
Cold paraffin is applied to the hands in a dense layer, which is similar to the gel in consistency and is distributed over the whole surface of the skin. This procedure can be done with a brush. Usually one layer is enough, but if necessary, you can apply a second after 10 seconds to achieve the desired thickness.
Hands on cellophane gloves, heat guns on top of them, and paraffin is left for about 20 minutes.
Finishing stage
Paraffin is removed from the hands with gloves, and its remnants are removed with napkins. If necessary, it can be applied over the nourishing cream.
For the procedure, an average of 100-150 g of paraffin will be required, and the course can be repeated up to two times a week.
Hot paraffinotherapy
The basis of the procedure is the use of a heated cosmetic paraffin. It is recommended to prepare it in advance, and on hands 150-200 grams will suffice.
A special amount of paraffin is placed in a special container and heated up to 45-50 degrees. If there is no special device, you can put paraffin in enameled dishes and melt it in a water bath. The resulting substance must be smooth and free of lumps.
Please note! Water should not enter the vessel, nor is it allowed to be present on the hands during the procedure.
Hot paraffin therapy at home can be done in three ways:
- immersion;
- layering;
- napkin application technique.
Each of the methods gives a good result, differing only in the way of applying paraffin to the skin.
Immersion method
Consists of consecutive immersion of hands in a bath with warm paraffin and consists of the steps:
- The skin is cleansed of dirt and cosmetics and is steamed in warm water.
- Apply to the surface of the hands scrub, and light massaging movements are performed. At this time, the dead skin particles are removed and the blood flow is stimulated.
- Apply a nourishing cream, lotion or oil, rubbed with massage movements. They also contribute to the additional moisturizing of the skin and its protection.
- Hands are immersed in a bath with paraffin for 10 seconds, then they are removed. It is given about 15 seconds to freeze the first layer, after which it is necessary to repeat the procedure 3-4 times more, until the paraffin layer reaches about 1 cm.
- Cellophane gloves and heat guns are put on hands.
- After 20-25 minutes with gloves, paraffin is removed, its residues are removed by hand or rinsed with warm water.
- You can apply nourishing cream on top.
Simultaneously with paraffinotherapy of the hands in the same way, it is possible to carry out the procedure on the legs.
Layering method
It consists in applying paraffin to the surface of the skin with a wide brush layers.
The procedure is carried out in a manner similar to the immersion method. Similarly, the skin of the hands is cleaned and prepared for the procedure, but there are several differences.
Paraffin warms up to a temperature of 55-65 degrees, and then, with a broad brush, it is applied to the prepared places, waiting between each layer for a few seconds, and repeating the action until the total thickness of the paraffin reaches 1-2 centimeters.
Hands wrapped in film or cellophane and wrapped in a towel or blanket.
After 25 minutes, paraffin can be removed from the skin and apply a cream.
Method of napkin-application
The basic stages are similar to alternative procedures, differing only in one moment: in addition to the main components, you need a gauze cloth prepared in advance and folded into 8 layers.
- Skin is cleansed with scrubs, lotions and prepared for the procedure. Nourishing moisturizing cream is applied.
- A layer of paraffin is applied using a layering or immersion method in two approaches, the thickness of which should not be more than 50 mm.
- The wax heats up to 65-70 degrees, the gauze cloth goes down, is impregnated, after it is slightly wrung out and placed on the skin.
- Napkin wrapped with a film and a towel, and leave your hands warm for 20 minutes.
- After the paraffin is removed and the cream is applied with nutrients.
Skin removed paraffin is not recommended to be reused, while the remaining paraffin can be stored in accordance with the instructions on the package. This will significantly reduce the consumption of material, allowing you to save on its purchase.
Please note! Regardless of skin type, paraffin therapy is recommended to be conducted 3-4 times a year. Each course can consist of no more than 15 procedures. In a week, you can do from 1 to 3 procedures.
In any of the methods of paraffin therapy, it is necessary to take into account the individual skin characteristics and to observe an acceptable thermal regime. Before proceeding to the procedure at home or in the salon, it is necessary to consult a physician for contraindications.
