Etiology and pathogenesis of chronic gastritis

This disease affects almost 85% of the population of Russia, and approximately 75% of people suffer from chronic gastritis in combination with other diseases of the digestive system.

The etiology of chronic gastritis is clear and understandable. To its origin can lead a huge number of reasons, however, recently there was an opinion that the cause of chronic gastritis can be a previously transferred acute gastritis. Perhaps this is true, but the objective causes of the origin of the etiology are exogenous factors:

  • Dysfunction. This can include everything related to food intake, its quality, food addiction, its wrong reception.
  • Alcohol and nicotine. They negatively affect the gastric mucosa, reduce immunity. It is proved that people who drink alcohol and cigarettes are more likely to suffer from this disease than other people.
  • Taking medications. They destructively affect the flora of the stomach, kill the beneficial bacteria living in it, lead to irritation and dysbiosis.

  • Negative impact on harmful industries. Harmful vapors and small particles of dust in various types of production: coal, silicate, chemical, cotton and others.
  • Infection with bacteria Hilikobakter Pilori. And after a gastritis, transferred for this reason, the chances of getting stomach cancer significantly increase.

One of the aforementioned etiological factors is sufficient for the development and progression of the disease. On its pathogenesis further.

The pathogenesis of chronic gastritis

Until recently, there was an erroneous view on the pathogenesis that in this disease the epithelial cells undergo dystrophic changes, in fact they lose the ability to regenerate. Simply put, cells of the mucous and stomach become "malignant" and lose their natural abilities to be replaced by younger ones and all the time replaced by new ones. Most often the mucous membrane is affected unevenly, everything starts with inflammation, then some of the glands dies off, collapses and undergoes other changes.

It should be noted that the etiology and pathogenesis of chronic gastritis largely depends on many factors, on the cause of the occurrence, the complexity of a particular case, it is important to consider whether the patient complies with the necessary recommendations, including a diet. The clinical picture is almost always the same, since the symptoms are very similar, but the treatment can proceed in different ways.
