The pancreas in the body is considered to be the second largest after the liver. Has a triangular shape, is located behind the stomach and is connected to the duodenum. It looks like an elongated lobed formation of gray-pink color. The type of the organ arrangement is transverse on the back cavity of the abdomen and in its upper part, at the level of the lumbar vertebrae. Rises from right to left, so the tail lies slightly higher.
Pancreas type
In adults, pancreatic can vary in size from 14 to 22 cm. The largest part is the head, its width reaches 3 cm. Within these limits, the thickness of the organ( 2-3 cm), andweight 80 gr. The structure of the body is the head, body and tail. The thickest part of it is the head, which has a hook-shaped process and borders on the duodenum. The narrowest part is the tail, which is connected to the spleen. The form of the body resembles a triangular prism.
Pancreatic juice produced by the pancreas collects in the duct, located from the tail to the head. It enters the duodenum together with the bile ducts.
Is supplied by blood through the upper and lower duodenal arteries. Lymph is diverted through the pancreas-lymphatic lymph nodes. It is covered with nerve fibers of the celiac and upper cerebral plexuses.
What does the pancreas look like?
Specificity of the pancreas is that its structure is made up of several types of tissues performing various functions. The outer layer looks like a thin connecting capsule, which covers the lobed formation. The structure of these small lobules is ferruginous. They are formed from the interlayers that leave the connecting capsule. Interlayers are covered with nerves and vessels. Inside the lobules there are ducts that are inserted into the interlobular, which, in turn, join the main pancreatic duct.
Also in the pancreas there are cell clusters in the size of 0,2 - 0,3 mm, in the form of balls, which are called islets of Langengars. They look different and differ in color, and have no connection with the excretory ducts. Lobules secrete pancreatic juice, and the islets secrete hormones into the blood. There are also cells in it that are called transitional or mixed. These acid sites can produce a zymogen and a hormone at the same time.
