The use of Amoxiclav in the treatment of sinusitis

1 Composition and mechanism of action of

This combination drug includes amoxicillin and clavulanic acid, an inhibitor of bacterial enzymes.

  1. Amoxicillin is an effective substance for eliminating bacteria, having a semi-synthetic origin. This drug acts on the protective wall of the microbe, reducing the release of protein. This leads to a slow development or the gradual withering away of the pathogenic bacteria.
  2. Clavulanic acid is necessary in order to destroy the microflora resistant to the main active substance. This component also increases the intracellular activity of leukocytes, increasing the overall effectiveness of the drug.

Microorganisms that produce β-lactamase type 1 do not enter the area of action of the drug. These include: serration, enterobacter, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, etc. Especially often these bacteria are found in chronic sinusitis, so before the treatment of this form of the disease, diagnostics is carried out to identify the type of harmful microflora.
