Anterior active rhinomanometry: indications for the study, methodology

Diseases of the nasopharynx are very common in medical practice. To diagnose any manifested diseases in the area used rinomanometry. This diagnostic method will provide the specialist with all the necessary information for diagnosis, choosing the appropriate method of therapy.

Rinomanometry

Rinomanometry is a diagnostic method that is used to check the patency within the nasal passages. This procedure also gives specialists the opportunity to assess intranasal pressure, perform an air flow assessment inside the nose.

In which diseases are prescribed

Pathology of nasal breathing, with which patients often refer to ENT, can be provoked by various diseases.

Rinomanometry will help a specialist to discover, investigate the following types of pathologies:

  • Adenoiditis.
  • Infectious rhinitis.
  • Snoring.
  • Vasomotor rhinitis.
  • Chronic tonsillitis.
  • Allergic rhinitis.

Indications for the

study Indications for the diagnostic method in question are:

  • Disturbance within the nasal breathing, which may be a consequence of the curvature of an organ such as a nasal septum.
  • Preparation for an operation that involves correction of the nasal septum.
  • The need to follow the results of the treatment.

Methodology for conducting

For the examination, the patient should sit on a chair. To diagnose the patency inside the nasal passages, the doctor applies a medical device( rhinomanometer) that has a connection to the computer.

The pressure sensor built into the unit records the air fluctuations inside the device. Then, the received data is converted into an electrical signal that passes to the computer, and then output to the monitor with its help. The data looks like a graphic.

Preparation of

There is no special preparation for this research method. Before the procedure, the specialist asks the patient to clear his nose. The patient takes a comfortable position, relaxes.

It is forbidden to squeeze the chest, cross legs during diagnosis.

Procedure

One half of the nose in the study patient should be closed with a special tip made of latex, then put on the mask. That nostril that will be examined is not covered with a latex tip.

When a specialist signals, the patient should breathe evenly. Interrupt breathing is prohibited. In the patient, breathing should be cyclic, deep, performed through the nose. Mouth breathing during the diagnosis is prohibited.

When the doctor gives a signal, the patient will be able to stop breathing, remove the mask, the tip. A similar algorithm performs a survey of another nasal pathway. The whole study takes about 1 - 2 minutes.

Decoding the results of

In healthy people, at a standard pressure( 150 Pa / s), approximately 500 to 800 cm3 of air passes through the nasal cavities.

If the result obtained after the study is below this indicator, then the patient has some kind of disease that interferes with the progress of the air. Thanks to the surgical treatment, you can completely restore the patency inside the nasal passages.

The results of rhinomanometry

Diagnostic value of

Rinomanometry enables physicians to determine the presence / absence of pathological nasal breathing, curvature of the nasal septum. This procedure has certain advantages over other diagnostic methods:

  • availability. The procedure is much cheaper than MRI, RKT;
  • safety. Diagnosis does not use x-rays.

Thanks to safety, diagnostics can be performed many times by adults, children.

Contraindications

This method of examination has its contraindications for the implementation:

  • early childhood. Sometimes a doctor can not establish contact with a small patient because of the high emotional lability of the baby.
  • bilateral absence of nasal breathing.
