Otitis is an inflammatory ear disease. Pathology often develops in childhood and requires complex therapy. Therefore, along with medicamental treatment, otolaryngologists prescribe physiotherapy techniques.

Physiotherapy with otitis

Physiotherapy is used in case of ear inflammation in order to increase the effectiveness of other therapies, accelerate recovery. The use of most methods leads to pronounced anti-edematous, bacteriostatic, anti-inflammatory, antispastic, regenerative and vasodilating effects.

Types of

Classification of physiotherapy procedures involves the separation of methods for the effect. The following groups of methods are distinguished: stimulating, purifying, warming.

It is worthwhile to consider each of the methods in more detail.

Stimulating procedures

The use of these techniques leads to elimination of edema, normalization of blood flow. For this purpose, the following procedures are used:

  • Pneumatic massage. It assumes the alternation of the effect of air masses of high and low pressure, which is created by a special apparatus. The method is based on stimulating the oscillation of the tympanic membrane, increasing the muscle tone. Such a procedure can be carried out at home, pumping air with palms;

  • Amplipulse therapy. Assumes the effect on the human body of sinusoidal currents. During treatment, electromagnetic oscillations are modeled by amplitude. The procedure is prescribed for various pathologies with severe pain syndrome. The effect of sinusoidal currents causes a rhythmic contraction of the musculature, an improvement in blood flow, the elimination of stagnant phenomena in the tissues, a reduction in puffiness;
  • Magnetotherapy. The procedure is based on the action of a magnetic field. The use of a low-frequency magnetic field in otitis allows to increase venous tone, activates lymphatic drainage processes, and reduces puffiness. To eliminate the swelling, pain relief the magnet is applied to the affected ear. The frequency of the field should not exceed 50 Hz. The duration of the session is 10 minutes, the course of therapy is 10 procedures. Magnetotherapy is widely used to treat inflammatory processes in internal organs, fractures, bruises;
  • Diadynamic therapy with currents. Rhythmic streams cause activation of cortical and subcortical centers, which leads to increased blood flow in the middle ear, normalizes the mobility of the auditory ossicles. The duration is 10 minutes.

Cleansing methods

In some cases, it may be necessary to cleanse the ear canal. To this end, apply such physioprocedures:

  • Ear blowing. The method is aimed at restoring the patency of the eustachian tube with an average otitis. The procedure should be performed by a qualified otolaryngologist. In most cases, after the procedure, patients notice improvement in hearing. However, the use of the technique should be discarded if the patient has a runny nose, sore throat. In such cases, blowing can lead to the spread of infection, the development of purulent otitis media;
  • Ear washing. The procedure is carried out with a purulent form of otitis, to prevent the spread of infection, the development of complications. It is recommended that the lavage be performed before every instillation of the ear. Washing is usually performed with hydrogen peroxide or warm vodka. These drugs have a pronounced antiseptic effect, therefore will lead to a decrease in the secretion of pus from the ear. Independent washing without prior consultation with a doctor can provoke a perforation of the tympanic membrane and a decrease in hearing.

Heating methods

Physiotherapy is aimed at eliminating inflammation, arresting pain syndrome. Allocate such methods:

  • SOLLUX.This method of phototherapy involves the action of a special incandescent lamp or UV lamp, which is placed in a reflector. With a general irradiation, the Sollyx lamp is installed at a distance of 1 m from the patient, the duration of the procedure is ΒΌ-1 hour. To treat otitis use table lamps, whose power is 200-300 em, with a cone-shaped tube-tip.
  • Electrophoresis. This warming procedure allows the introduction of drugs through the skin and mucous membranes: antibiotics or zinc sulfate. This leads to a reduction in the dosage of the drug, which minimizes the development of side effects. The duration of the electrophoresis session is gradually increased from 10 to 20 minutes;
  • UHF.The method is widely used in the treatment of acute otitis and during exacerbation of chronic inflammation. Exposure to the ear is provided through a small air gap. With an easy course of the disease, 6 procedures for 5 minutes are sufficient for complete recovery. With purulent otitis or exudative, up to 15 sessions of 7-10 minutes are recommended. UHF is used for inflammation of various internal organs, skin.

UHF ear method

The use of

The use of UHF leads to a change in biophysical and chemical processes:

  • Reduction of edema due to increased permeability of the walls of vessels for fine substances. Large particles( toxic compounds, bacteria) do not pass through the vascular wall. This allows to localize inflammation and reduce intoxication;
  • pH of the medium becomes acidic, which causes an increase in the number of leukocytes in the tissues, activates phagocytosis;
  • Reflex calming effect.

Depending on the intensity of the field, the following effect of the procedure is possible:

  • Weak intensity - marked anti-inflammatory effect;
  • Medium - stimulation of metabolic processes;
  • Large - provokes an increase in inflammation.

The main indications of

UHF therapy is prescribed in the following situations:

  • Inflammatory diseases of the throat, ears, nose;
  • The presence of acute inflammation of the skin and subcutaneous fat;
  • Pathologies of digestive organs of inflammatory nature;
  • Pathologies of the musculoskeletal system;
  • Gynecological pathologies of inflammatory nature;
  • Inflammatory lung diseases;
  • Pathologies of the peripheral nervous system.

Contraindications

UHF therapy is prohibited in the following situations:

  • Patient has a pacemaker;
  • Pregnancy period;
  • of Oncology;
  • Presence in the anamnesis of a hysteromyoma, fibral nodes, mastopathy;
  • Be wary of treatment with thyrotoxicosis and blood pathologies.

Benefits and Harms of UHF Therapy:

Principle of Operation

The procedure is based on the effect of an electromagnetic field on the patient's ear. Deep penetration of heat waves leads to an improvement in local blood flow and lymphogenesis, resorption of exudate, which is formed during inflammation.

Methodology of

Around the patient area, 2 special plates are placed, leaving a small air gap between them. During the session, the patient may feel slight tingling or warmth at both points of location.

Features of the procedure for children

UHF-therapy can be carried out from the first days of life of the baby. In this case, the duration of the session should be:

  • 5 minutes in children under 1 year;
  • No more than 7 minutes per child from 1 to 3 years;
  • 8 minutes in patients aged 3 to 7 years;
  • 10-15 minutes for children older than 8 years.

During physiotherapy, the following rules must be observed:

  1. The procedure is carried out 50-60 minutes after eating;
  2. In case of mental or physical overstrain, the child should be allowed to rest before the therapy;
  3. Repeated treatment is recommended only after 3-4 months;
  4. Children quickly overwork, so recommend to assign only 1 procedure.

It is recommended to abandon the use of physiotherapy for children with reduced adaptive capacity, with hypotrophy( insufficient weight), against a background of high body temperature or increased bleeding.

Is there an alternative?

It is impossible to replace UHF therapy with home procedures. However, there are special portable equipment that allows you to carry out treatment at home without the presence of medical personnel.

Read the instructions before using the appliance. Recommend to pass a short training with a physiotherapist.

The value of therapy

Physiotherapy methods allow to achieve the following results:

  • To expand the range of treatment methods;
  • Reduce the duration of therapy;
  • Excludes the development of allergies;
  • Increase the effectiveness of most medicines;
  • With proper use, eliminate side effects on other organs and tissues;
  • Reduce the risk of exacerbations;
  • Effectively suppress pain syndrome;
  • Remove inflammation.

The goal of physiotherapy is to increase the effectiveness of otitis treatment in patients of all age groups. Physical methods can reduce the burden on the liver and prevent the development of complications.
