Fashion for a healthy lifestyle overwhelmed young people of both sexes. Girls are engaged in fitness, guys pump muscles. To be fashionable now is not enough to be lean, you need to have a sporty body with clearly defined muscles. At the same time, leaving the gym, that the girls, that the boys immediately open a pack of cigarettes and light a cigarette. What can you say about this combination?

Smoking and Sports

Some smokers really believe that frequent and serious exercise is so strong in the lungs and the cardiovascular system that the harm caused by nicotine in this case simply fades. This is partly true. Some sports have beneficial effects on the heart and respiratory system, which avoids the development of cardiovascular diseases, increases lung volume, and this, in turn, promotes deeper breathing, oxygen exchange in tissues and the development of endurance.

It turns out that the athlete, by training his lungs and heart, thereby protects them from the harmful effects of nicotine. Is it really?

Influence on classes

The fact that smoking has a very negative effect on health and causes many serious diseases is known to almost all smokers. Smoking is also incompatible with sports. A bad habit contributes to the development of dyspnoea and a worsening of gas exchange, provokes the appearance of a smoker's cough and bronchitis. What happens to the body if you add sports?

Even at the beginning of the lesson, with warm-up, the athlete's breathing becomes quicker, intensive gas exchange occurs, the lungs open up, their throughput increases. If a smoking sportsman smoked one cigarette before training and then went to the treadmill, his lungs will experience tremendous stress - the lack of oxygen resulting from smoking, badly affects the overall endurance and the contractile ability of the muscles, as a result the athlete suffocates, feels dizzy, his pulse rate increases. Frequent and prolonged smoking also changes the normal lung tissue, replacing it with scar tissue. Lung alveoli, filled with tar and tobacco burning products, do not conduct oxygen from the lungs to the heart muscle, and when exercising, the body requires much more oxygen than in normal life. Lungs of a smoker can not carry oxygen in the required volume for sports achievements, accordingly, the results of such an athlete will slope.

As for a smoking person actively engaged in sports, then as a result of nicotine poisoning the heart works at a rapid pace, the pressure is usually increased, and the walls of the vessels are highly spasmodic. During training, the need for a heart in oxygen is very high, but the spasm of the vessels does not allow to carry a large amount of oxygen to the tissues. As a result, a part of the heart muscle may die, the so-called myocardial infarction. This, of course, is an extreme case. Nevertheless, the work of the heart at the limit of its capabilities does not allow an athlete to train in the mode in which he can achieve higher results - a smoking person often stops to catch his breath, gets tired, dizziness and nausea arise.

One can not help but mention the effect of nicotine on the nervous system of the athlete. This is not about stress and insomnia, although the effects of tobacco and these consequences are inevitable. But now we need to talk about such things as coordination of movements, which is absolutely necessary for any athlete, and about vascular pathologies in the activity of the brain, as the main regulator of nervous activity.
An actively trained person in extreme need of good coordination of movements. This is especially important in sports such as boxing or wrestling. Violation of coordination due to nicotine poisoning of the brain severely limits the athlete in the good performance of his training and reduces the entire preparation for competitions to almost zero.

But the effect of nicotine on the vessels of the brain is much more terrible. Narrowing of the vessels leads to the strongest hypoxia of the brain, a person loses the ability to make quick decisions, which in no way contributes to the athletic achievements of man. Exceeding the load, together with increased pressure, can provoke the development of acute circulatory disturbances in the brain - a stroke.

Consequences of

Of course, not all smoking people engaged in the gym or running in the morning, necessarily slushut with a heart attack or stroke. But no less serious is perceived by an actively trained person the absence of any changes in the quality of his body, a lack of muscle mass or the inability to achieve any sporting result in competitions.

For example, in sports such as bodybuilding and powerlifting, a smoking sportsman will always look less advantageous than his non-smoking rival.

What to say about aerobic exercise, where the athlete is extremely important respiratory activity and a large volume of lungs. Due to chronic stagnant phenomena in the lungs, due to the toxic effect of nicotine and constant aerobic exercise, a person may develop respiratory failure, which is very dangerous for life.

A variety of neuralgia and myalgia are a constant companion to a smoking athlete. Pain in the muscles and nerve endings of the spinal cord provokes a person to give up sports. Although, it is preferable to leave a bad habit and calmly engage in the beloved business further.

Tips for smokers

Unfortunately, not everyone can quit smoking with just a flick of his fingers. Nicotine is so cleverly built in the metabolism that its absence causes real suffering - a person begins to dream about the way in which he tightens his cigarette, he becomes irritable and aggressive. Against this background, training is becoming harder, and it is almost impossible to get more or less adequate results. What to do - continue to smoke and continue or quit smoking, and with him to leave for a while and sports? Consider when and how you can break into doing exercises after smoking.

If it was not possible to leave a bad habit quickly and painlessly, then at least minimize the damage from cigarettes:

  • do not smoke for about a couple of hours before training, so that the cardiovascular and respiratory systems can recover and have a vasospasm;
  • coming out of the gym, try not to drag on a cigarette for at least half an hour, and preferably an hour;
  • gradually increasing physical activity, as well as gradually reduce the number of smoked cigarettes;
  • when doing sports try to smoke cigarettes with low tar and nicotine content.

Many athletes note the fact that with the advent of serious sports in their lives, there was no time to smoke, and the desire disappeared. Therefore, the advice is this: the more and more often you play sports, the less time and desire you have left for bad habits.

Sport after quitting

In deciding to leave a detrimental addiction to nicotine in the past, a person should never give up playing sports. First, sports is disciplined. There is a strict diet and snacks, which helps maintain the body in excellent physical shape. As we all know, those who quit smoking begin to gain weight rapidly, eating their desire to smoke with sweet rolls. With the regime you will not especially be hampered, and physical activity does not allow the body to save excess fat under the skin.

But a small jog or Scandinavian walking with sticks is quite suitable for beginners who stopped smoking, as an excellent way to strengthen the immune system and cleanse the airways from accumulated dirt in them.

The main thing in the fight against smoking - do not overdo it. Do not immediately try to make sprinting races against smoking or on the joys of pulling heavy rods, so the consciousness will not lose much from a heavy load. The lungs have not yet recovered sufficiently and are unable to cope with the increased oxygen demand for the body, so the best option for a throwing or already abandoned athlete's habit is a bike ride, easy cross-country skiing in the winter or fast walking in the summer. You can start swimming, it facilitates the withdrawal of excess phlegm and trains the lungs.

Refusing to smoke, the athlete gets the opportunity to achieve better results and boast of new records, so the advice to actively training people will be one: drop all bad habits, more often and more effectively train and set new records!
