Follicular antral gastritis

Follicular( lymphoid) antral gastritis is very rare in practice. The disease is diagnosed in less than one percent of cases of chronic inflammation of the stomach.

Most often, pathology develops against the background of infection with Helicobacter pylori. The antral part of the stomach, due to the most alkaline environment, is most favorable for their introduction and reproduction.

The organism reacts to the spread of bacteria by the accumulation of lymphocytes in places where the mucous and stomach tissues are affected by the inflammatory process. They are transformed into follicles, which cover the glands responsible for the production of gastric juice.

As a result of epithelial cell infiltration, food is not completely processed. Thickening can reach noticeable dimensions and resemble atrophic and hypertrophic lesions.

The reaction of the body depends on the individual characteristics and the state of immunity.

The risk of follicular antrum inflammation is increased under the following conditions:

  • state of stress and neurosis;
  • unhealthy eating;
  • bad habits;
  • vegetative-vascular dystonia.

Usually, the disease occurs with the already available gastritis of the antrum.

Diagnosis and treatment of follicular antral gastritis

For diagnosis of follicular antral gastritis, fibrogastroscopy and biopsy of gastric tissues will be required. Most often the disease passes in a fairly mild form, without exacerbations and severe manifestations. In the event that the pains become frequent, there is a risk that the disease still has an atrophic form, which can turn into a malignant one.

Usually, the manifestations of follicular gastritis are less pronounced than with erosive or ulcerative, so they rarely cause particular concern. The patient may complain of heartburn and eructations with a sour taste, mild pain and a feeling of heaviness in the abdomen, nausea and flatulence.

Therapy of the disease depends on the individual characteristics of the patient and clinical manifestations.

If the study revealed the presence of Helicobacteria, a course of antibiotics is prescribed. Apply medicines that have enveloping properties and neutralize the high acidity of gastric juice. An important role in the treatment of follicular antral gastritis is played by a therapeutic diet, which should be adhered to until complete cure and some time after it.
