Diagnostic method, based on the physical property of tissues to transmit light rays, is called diaphanoscopy. A way known for a long time, does not require special preparation. In some cases, diaphanoscopy remains a priority and an indispensable method of determining the diagnosis.
What is diaphanoscopy?
Fabric, depending on the density and other properties that distinguish certain substances from others, have a different ability to pass light through themselves.
So, if a narrow luminous flux passes through the zone:
- where a cyst is formed, in the cavity of which there is a clear liquid, then it will miss the light rays and there will be a reddish color in the darkness in the darkness;
- which is represented by an air-containing chamber, it will also glow when the beam passes, but the saturation of the glow will appear different;
- that does not transmit light and remains a dark spot in the dark, it is concluded that the problem was not created by the cyst, but it can be a tumor, or an inflammatory process.
The air-containing cavities are the most permeable to the luminous flux. Spaces filled with a liquid pass light differently:
- the more transparent the liquid, the brighter the glow in the dark, the purple media less pass the light ray, so the glow will be weak.
The drawbacks of the method include:
- a small diagnostic accuracy,
- an inexperienced expert can make a conclusion with some error.
Advantages of the method:
- is painless,
- does not require any special preparation,
- has no harmful side effects,
- is simple in execution.
Which organs can be examined?
The method is used to check the condition:
- of the tissues around the eyes and eyeballs,
- of the frontal sinuses,
- of the nasal sinuses,
- of the mammary glands,
- examine the male organs - the scrotum is visible.
Regarding the last point, from the moment the method of diagnostics with the help of ultrasound appeared, it became a priority for the study of the scrotum. It is connected with the fact that ultrasound is a more accurate and informative way.
What helps to identify diaphanoscopy?
The different effect of tissue radiography gives information on whether there is a pathology or tissues in the site under investigation that are in a normal state.
The delicacies of the diagnosis are revealed to a specialist who has experience in carrying out this method.
This is due to the fact that different results will depend on such components of the process:
- the angle of inclination of the ray being sent, the
- of the density of the examined tissues, the
- capability and the ability to compare the results of the healthy half( for example, the maxillary sinus) and the one where thepathological phenomena.
The method allows you to make an assumption about the presence of:
- tumor,
- purulent process,
- cyst.
About procedure
The device is a light bulb that is fixed to the handle. This is a schematic diagram, and the execution is probably very different. Light bulbs have been used only recently, now they use xenon lamps more.
In urology it is customary to use a special device - a cystoscope light guide. When examining the eyes, use a special light bulb, which is in a metal capsule.
- In the case when the maxillary sinuses are diagnosed, the bulb is placed in the oral cavity. The patient grasps the pen on which the light bulb is located. Possible result:
- from the healthy side under the eye socket, a reddish glow in the form of a crescent will appear, and a reddish color of the pupil will also be observed;
- if the maxillary sinus has inflammation, then there will be no glow from this side.
- In urology , the light source is oriented from the posterior wall of the scrotum, closer to its base. The indication is an increase in the volume of the scrotum. If the negative process is only on one side, then there is the likelihood of it being recognized with greater accuracy by comparing the results. The hydrocele of the testicle( dropsy) or cyst in it will show itself that in the dark the scrotum will glow with reddish light. Diseases of a different nature will appear darkening.
- If the condition of the frontal sinus is checked, the light flux is directed to the inner corner of the eye's orbit( at the top).Passing through the bones of the skull, the beam creates a glow in the frontal sinus( in the case where there is no pathology).
- Breast glands are shined to check the absence of pathological formations in them. This method also checks the integrity of the implants.
- Anesthesia is performed when examining the condition of the eye. After this, a special tip is applied to the eye surface and moves in different directions. Shaded areas will indicate a problem inside the organ, possibly a tumor. A favorable indicator will be when the pupil looks red, and in the path of the light stream there are no obstacles. There are a lot of special techniques for examining the eye, how to make it diaphanoscopy. This method is valuable for checking eye health. But ultrasound in this area is not indicated for use.
