The body of the pancreas is the middle part of this organ, located between the head and tail. From the head it is separated by a small narrow furrow, along which the vein passes. There is no clear boundary between these parts. It passes conditionally. The whole organ consists of a homogeneous tissue, absolutely identical in all parts. And yet, considering this part of the pancreas, it can be noted that it has a peculiar shape and larger dimensions than the head or tail. It resembles a triangular prism in which three elongated facets with well visible edges are clearly distinguished. Ideally, in a healthy person, the length of the entire pancreas is about 15-22 cm. Of this, about 25 mm is required for the body. With regard to their location, you can conditionally divide them into the front, back and bottom.
The anterior part of the body of the pancreas( Latin facies anterio) has a glandal tubercle. It is directed to the stuffing box. This part of the facies anterio is covered by the parietal part of the peritoneum, almost approaching the stomach, has a slightly concave shape. Its main axis, it looks forward.
The lower part( Latin facies inferior) is much narrower than the other two surfaces. It protrudes slightly down and is facing forward.
The posterior surface of the body of the pancreas( Latin facies posterior) permeates long longitudinal grooves that connect with the splenic vessels. This surface is located at the spine and abuts against the back of the abdominal wall. It has a fascial cover. Near it there are large blood vessels and there is a celiac plexus.
All three surfaces of the body of the pancreas are separated by one from one intermediate edges.
Pancreatic body pathologies
Sometimes such pathologies occur that can be detected by radiography. First of all, it is inflammation, which usually starts pancreatitis. A detailed study shows an increase in volume. In this case, there is a significant increase in the distance between the stomach and the spine. When this site is affected, patients experience unpleasant pain in the epigastric region. People call this place "under the spoonful".If you feel such tingling, you must have a mandatory examination with a doctor with a consistent course of treatment. It is this disease that can lead to the formation of cysts or malignant tumors, which sometimes leads to death.
