A lymph node is a small formation of a pink, roundish shape. As a rule, they are located in the body next to the blood and lymphatic vessels. Inside the nodes there is a lymphoid tissue, and in the intervals there is something like a filtering mechanism through which lymph flows from the tissues of the organs. It is important to know that it is in them that the maturation of macrophages and leukocytes occurs, which get into the blood, protect our body from infection.
The pancreas has a dense network of lymphatic vessels that are connected together. Some vessels are of small caliber, while others are larger. It should be noted that the closer the vessel to the regional lymph node, the larger it is. There are a lot of lymph nodes in the pancreas. The number and size of each person is different.
For example, the number of anterior pancreatic-duodenum nodes can range from 4 to 18, and the posterior of 6 and 28. As the spleen vessels are moving closer to the edge of the organs, there may be 7 to 19 nodes.
Due to the fact that the lymphatic system of the pancreas is closely related to the lymphatic formations that are located next to the spleen, duodenum and stomach, they have common lymph nodes.
Such close connections between the pancreas and other organs can lead to a rapid spread of infection. And if a person has malignant formation in this organ, then there is a high probability of metastasizing to other organs.
Usually, if there is a tumor, the pancreas is removed together with the regional lymph nodes. In some cases, this forced measure helps to prevent the occurrence of relapses.
Inflammation of pancreatic lymph nodes
Lymph nodes are the first to signal the penetration of any infection into the organ. A healthy lymph node about the size of a pea. It has a uniform consistency, is not connected with surrounding tissues and is mobile.
If the body has an inflammatory process or a malignant tumor has occurred, then the immune system needs more lymphocytes to fight against foreign cells and microorganisms. In the lymph nodes, their intensive formation occurs, if the infection gets there, they increase in size and become inflamed.
We distinguish the main symptoms of inflammation of the lymph nodes:
- rise in temperature;
- increase in the size of the affected lymph node;
- rapid fatigue and weakness;
- painful sensations in the site of localization;
- nausea and vomiting.
In some patients, symptoms may not be pronounced. But if with a slight pressure in the abdomen there are painful sensations or some kind of condensation, it is necessary to seek qualified medical help. It is necessary to identify the causes of this inflammation, because this symptom can signal the development of a malignant tumor.
Lymph nodes in pancreatitis
You can recognize pancreatitis with ultrasound, computer or magnetic resonance imaging. With the help of this study it is possible to see the condition of the organ. First of all, the structure of the pancreas, its contour, focal changes, the condition of the lymph nodes, surrounding vessels and organs is assessed.
Usually, lymph nodes in pancreatitis are increased, since there is a strong inflammation in the organ. Naturally, when the disease worsens, you need to call an ambulance, because every minute is expensive. While doctors are coming to reduce symptoms, you can use cold compresses.
