Nowadays any doctor is familiar with such a medical product as Augmentin. It is a modern antibiotic that cures many infections. Such a remedy is included in the list of medicines recommended by the Ministry of Health. The medication itself has antibacterial and bactericidal properties. The main function of the drug is to destroy the walls of harmful bacteria during their growth and division.
Unfortunately, such antibiotics can cause diarrhea in many people. This is due to the fact that the drug aggressively affects the intestinal microflora. In most cases, diarrhea from Augmentin stops after taking antibiotics ends.
There are three issued forms of the drug:
- Powder for injection;
- Tablets;
- Powder for suspension.
For children, often prescribed Augmentin, diarrhea can occur if you drink more than the permitted standard of the drug. Before giving the drug to children or adults, you should know its dosage in order to reduce the likelihood of diarrhea:
- For children aged 0 to 2 months, a single dose is prescribed by a doctor. Independently categorically it is not recommended to calculate dosage for babies, as this will cause diarrhea and more serious problems;
- At the age of 2 to 24 months, a single dose is calculated depending on the body weight of the baby. If the dose is not calculated correctly, there may be diarrhea from Augmentin;
- From 2 to 6 years with a body weight of 13 to 21 kilograms, a single dosage is 5 milliliters. With a severe degree of malaise, the dosage of the drug is increased to 10 milliliters;
- From 7 to 12 years with a mass of up to 40 kilograms at a time, 10 milliliters are taken. In special cases, the amount of the drug can be increased by a factor of 2, but there is a possibility that the child will have diarrhea from Augmentin.
The medication intake interval is 12 hours, that is, one day you can drink Augmentin 2 times, but there is a possibility that the child will have diarrhea. It is best to take the preparation before meals to reduce the effect on the digestive tract.
Tablets and injection can be taken only by children who are 12 or more years old. After breeding, Augmentin can be stored in the refrigerator for no more than 1 week. The maximum duration of treatment for infection is 2 weeks. To avoid diarrhea, it is not recommended to abuse the antibiotic.
Any use of strong medications should be justified and reasoned by a policlinic officer and then the disease will quickly pass, and diarrhea does not appear.
