Metastronyleus is one of the types of helminthiases, the causes of which are the nematodes of the genus Metastrongylus elongatus. These are small round worms( up to 5 cm), preferring to settle in the lungs and in the respiratory tract of wild boars and domestic pigs. Metastrongylose pathogens produce a fairly large number of eggs, along with sputum they enter the digestive tract, from which eggs are emptied when emptying the intestine - into the external environment. They already contain an invasive larva. It is swallowed by ordinary earthworms, embedded in the walls of the esophagus, the larvae finally ripen, after twenty days of life inside the earthworm the larva becomes capable of infecting animals actively digging into humus and devouring earthworms. The life cycle thus ends.
Getting into the stomach of an animal under the influence of hydrochloric acid, earthworms are digested, and larvae easily move into the intestine. There they enter the submucosal layer and through the lymph migrate into the chest lymphatic bloodstream. Their ultimate goal is pulmonary alveoli, and then small bronchi. It is here that the larvae become fixed and grow to adult individuals. That's why helminthiasis has similar symptoms with many pulmonary diseases. Diagnosis metastrongelez only possible in the fallen cattle. At autopsy bronchopneumonia is detected. Mucous respiratory system with the described helminthiosis has a pink intense color, it is all covered with abundant foam. And this is the main symptom of metastronitis. Where there are worms, there are seals. When they are opened, a copious foam of gray-pink color is allocated, it is easy to see parasites.
Metastrongilez becomes the cause of weakening of the heart muscle, it becomes flabby over time. The mucosa of the gastrointestinal tract is damaged, it is all involved in catarrhal inflammation. Almost all the lymph nodes during metastronitis increase in size, the spleen loses volume and shrivels. But the kidneys remain intact and function normally.
Metastronitis in humans is extremely rare. Infection occurs when eating meat delicacies, cooked at home with the addition of giblets. Signs of the disease in humans in the first stages of infection are practically not manifested. The patient may complain of a cough, lack of appetite, a gradual weight loss. Chronic bronchitis and bronchopneumonia are another characteristic symptom of metastronitis. Treatment for a person is prescribed the same as with ascariasis.
